Description

This methodology was developed in order to provide guidelines for a plan of action for identifying and monitoring biodiversity and its utilisation with special reference to Small Island Developing States. It is designed to promote the sustainable use of biodiversity resources by an interactive process involving each island’s human population through responsible stewardship, with personal involvement in monitoring, decision taking, and implementation at all levels, including the individual and local community. As such, the approach is intended to complement national and international actions and contribute to the achievements of the global objectives of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
