Description
This publication focuses on the critical role of the office of the Ombudsman in the search for good governance in the Kingdom of Lesotho. Based mostly on a national workshop organised in October 1999 in collaboration with the office of the Ombudsman of Lesotho and the National University of Lesotho, it has been developed to serve as major reference material on the work and aims of the office. It presents different dimensions of the office’s wide-ranging role, set against the background of Commonwealth best practices. It surveys the office since its establishment in 1993, while offering pertinent background information, practical ideas and suggestions for practitioners, scholars and the general public. The book provides a review of the past as well as a projection of the future of the Ombudsman as an important part of the institutional paraphernalia for the consolidation of democracy and good governance in Lesotho. It is a handbook on what the office is, what it does, how it does this, and how it can best serve the interest of the ordinary individual.
